We recently stumbled across this lovely quote; “What I like about black and white photographs is that they’re more like reading a book than seeing the movie,” since then we’ve become a little obsessed with all monochrome photography. Its stillness and storytelling ability draws you in as well as being aesthetically very beautiful. Here’s a little collection of some of our recent favourites…..

As they’re a personal favourite, we’re forever looking for new ways to enjoy radishes. Not only are they one of the prettiest root vegetables with their beautiful pink and purple colouring, but we love their fresh peppery taste in salads and also cooked dishes. They’re particularly wonderful when roasted, Martha Stewart does a simple but delicious take on the roasted radish with olive oil, lemon juice and seasoning, found here….. http://martha.ms/1q2azlR

We were lucky enough to get to visit Heston Blumenthal’s most renown restaurant ‘The Fat Duck’ recently. There were a total of 14 courses to be enjoyed, each and every one as beautifully presented as the next and equally as tasty. A firm favourite was the mad hatters tea party and the chocolate playing cards as pictured. We managed to photograph most courses, however the odd one was demolished before thinking of recording it, the service was incredible and refreshingly friendly, a good night was had by all!
This week we finalise our A/W2014 collection with our photo shoot, no sooner is one season put to bed we start looking ahead to the next, S/S2015! As with every season it begins with a lot of research, having begun this it’s inevitable that our ever growing wish list grows further, of which the above are all new additions. Leather continues to be a firm favourite, you’ll spot it being used as clever new storage solutions, holding magazines or recycled jam jars. We’re also still fond of bare bulb lighting, especially when used on beautifully refined pieces as seen on both the clamp table lamp and detailed pendant above.

We recently discovered the wonderful work of Danielle Kroll. Danielle is an artist based in Brooklyn, New York, her style is whimsical and playful and her subject matter aims to “bring smiles to grumpy faces everywhere.” No matter what the project, everything Danielle creates is hand-done and made with love, she is mostly inspired by her childhood, the weird and wacky, and vintage treasures. We particularly love her quirky alphabet interpretations and her colourful fruit and veg as featured above.

A spot of sunshine makes it so much easier to eat a little healthier. This time of year we love using fresh peas and beans in all sorts of recipes to add sweetness and a wonderful splash of green. A firm favourite of ours is Nigel Slater’s Green pea rice, perfect on its own or as we enjoy it served with smoked ham. You can find several of his pea recipes here: http://bit.ly/1ssGAoa

This weeks product of the week is our beautifully handmade stone Terrarium, it is the perfect piece for showcasing your favourite plants and blooms. Lined with a glass bowl insert for ease of planting and cleaning, it will make a unique decorative addition to your home. Fill with single, grouped or dotted plants to bring a touch of outdoors in and add a wonderful display to your desk, table or shelf. Our favourite thing to fill them with is succulents, a selection of different shapes and sizes will provide lasting enjoyment even to the least green-fingered of individuals: http://bit.ly/1lS0c0H

A little message for the weekend ahead, wishing all Dads a moustachely marvelous Fathers Day…..
As the temperature gradually rises and we’re beginning to feel like summer has officially started, we’re enjoying more and more summer foods and seasonal produce. Nothing says summer like a chilled glass of Lemonade, Nigel Slater sums it up perfectly; “Few can resist the innocent charms of a chilled jug of homemade lemonade, tinkling with ice cubes, on a summer afternoon. Lemonade is a garden drink, only really coming into its own when drunk outside, in the shade of a leafy tree.” You can try his Classic Lemonade recipe here: http://bit.ly/UoLLH0

Whenever we start developing or sourcing new products for our Little Rowen & Wren & Little Wren range the palette of the collection is very much at the forefront of our minds. Nowadays children’s interiors are less about all over brights and girl or boy orientation, but more about soothing neutrals and coloured accents. A look that we personally love and therefore try to translate into our collection. Of recent the colour accents include pops of neon adding a playful element that children will love, as will us adults! http://bit.ly/QB1RLq

With half term finally here and lots of holidays planned, we’ve been inspired to put together a little visual holiday of our own. Weather depending, there’s nothing nicer than enjoying some time off out in the great outdoors. Whether it’s a full camping trip or simply a woodland picnic, all you need is some good food, good company and the great outdoors, it’s continuously accessible and even better it’s completely free. We hope you have a very happy half term however you choose to spend it.

It’s not often that we do a fashion post as it’s far from our area of expertise, however that’s not to say that we’re not constantly on the look out for new additions to our wish list and this month we’ve found plenty. Evidently we’re as keen on brass in fashion as within the home, we particularly love the beautiful stud earrings from Generalstore.com (top right), teamed with a brass framed watch, a relaxed denim shirt and some pumps or brogues, we’ve got our ideal outfit for May.
